Photo camera in hand: ancient Roman theatre in Orange, Provence.
The French Provence has very ancient history. Still Greeks have based some of Provence cities in 600 - 500 y. B.C. (Marseilles, Cassis, Arles). Some of others, as Orange (40s BC), have been based by Romans. Orange, perhaps, is the best place in France to familiarize with Roman architecture. In particular, the Roman theatre and a triumphal arch dated to the time of emperor Augustus have preserved theirs existence thru centuries in a remarkable condition. The visitors only have to remember, that Orange is the warmest city in France, and it is rather hot here in summer. There are roman theatres in France in the cities of Arles and Lyon, though they are preserved in much worse conditions. The ruins of the roman theatres can be seen also in Burgundy and Normandy.
