Strange as it may appear, but mountain pyrenees region can be called, without exaggeration, a land of lakes. Annual precipitation rate here is rather high, and watersheds are not especially tall. Besides, there are in the area a large amount of man-made lakes used in electric power generation. Such ponds are very picturesque and difficult to discern from natural lakes, as both of the types are often framed by similar rocky brinks. Sometimes, the lakes located at different heights are connected between themselves by waterfalls. This short story about pyrenees lakes would be incomplete had we forgotten to mention of underground lakes in caves which aren’t ‘rara avis’ in this region.
