A famous French painter and book illustrator Paul Gustave Dore was born was born in Strasburg (Alsace, France) on the 6th of January 1832. May be, Dore is the most popular
illustrator in the word of all time. At the age of 14 he published his first album. When he was 15 he began working for the publishing company, and at age 16 he was the highest paid illustrator of France. Through his lifetime, he illustrated up to 200 books, some of series to consist of more than 400 illustrations. He did over 400 oil paintings also and several hundred watercolor landscapes. His main works are: illustrations to Dante's Divine Comedy, illustrations to Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote, illustrations to Edgar Allan Poe's poem The Raven and, first of all, engravings to the illustrated English Bible. He illustrated also several fairy tales books, which works, beyond doubt and especially to the Charles Perrault tales, are matchless masterpieces.
